Greece

As a kid I liked ancient history very much (I still do :)). This is one of the reasons why I always wanted to visit Italy and Greece. I was lucky enough to see them both and I was not dissapointed.

My strongest memory from Greece is the light, extremely bright. The place that I liked the most was the Temple of Poseidon at Sunion. Lying on a very yellow and deserted hill, enclosed on three sites by sea, beautiful blue Mediteranean Sea, it projects its white columns against an unbelivable clear sky. Beautiful things are sometimes very simple.

I also enjoyed a lot the trip I took to Crete. The only thing that I had in mind was to see the Minoan Palace at Knossos. However, Iraklion itself was a nice place, with buildings looking a little bit like those of the North of Italy, which is quite natural since Crete was a colony of Republic of Venice for more than 400 years. I got to Crete by boat which left Pyrues late afternoon and got to Irakion the next early morning. I saw both the sunset and the sunrise on the sea in the same amazing trip.
