Since August of 1997 I have been a graduate student at Purdue University working towards my PhD in Computer Science. I received my Masters degree in 1999. Presently, I am working as a research assistant in the Computer Operations, Audit, and Security Technology research group (COAST) which has recently become part of the university level Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS). [It's pronounced like "serious"].

I am an alumnus of Beavercreek High School class of 1993 and The University of Toledo class of 1997 where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering for Computer Science and Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.

Current research projects include

• Working on my dissertation
• SmashGuard A CPU modification that can detect and prevent attacks on stored return addresses (designed to address buffer overflow attacks)

Ongoing research projects I have participated in

• Autonomous agents for intrusion detection (AAFID)
• Vulnerability Database - including the Workshop on Research with Security Vulnerability Database
• Audit trails format - focused on application and host information
• Network traceback
• Software tools evaluation

Completed projects

• Investigation of cross channel potential in multi-use office equipment.
• Automatic generation of application level audit data.
• Penetration testing of Windows NT (SP3)

• Hewlett-Packard's IDS/9000 (now HP-UX HIDS)- I was one of the software engineers and designer/author of the initial release's detection logic.
