[Note: An oceanographer friend of mine's PhD research involved, among
other things, studying a water temperature time series taken over
several decades at Hopkins Marine Lab in Monterey, California. His
analysis showed a mysterious seven day cyle in the temperatures. It
turned out that on weekends, the technicians would take the water
temperature readings a couple of hours later in the day than on
weekdays, thus introducing a small but discernable cyclic effect. One
wonders whether there is something similar at work here. -- spl]
