The Cover Letters often refer to "Updates" which are not available on the Web. Everything in these Updates is contained in the Third Edition of the book, which is available on the Web, except for the "wanted lists." For Pages 58-60, the "wanted lists" are in the "Champions" page below. I will try to find and post other old "wanted" lists and lists of "Champions" and first holes.
These Pages cover the period July 1, 1985 through May 12, 1990. During this period the Elliptic Curve Method found very many factors of Cunningham numbers. The Quadratic Sieve and its variations factored many hard numbers and raised the size of the smallest unfactored number from 54 to 91 decimal digits. Page 53 reports the first factorization of a hard 100-digit number. As reported in the New York Times, with the help of dozens of researchers and hundreds of computers, AK Lenstra and M Manasse factored the number 11,104+ c100 by the Quadratic Sieve.
